Bakery Manager job – CAD$50,000 – CAD$60,000 per year + potential bonus MORE if needed

Bonus – pre-requisite is the company must make a profit, bonus payout for both positions ranges from 0% – 12% depends on company, department and individual's performances

Benefits – 50% of BC's Medical Service Plan's Premium to be covered by the company upon probation is successfully completed

Group Life, Health, Dental, Vision, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance – 50% of Premium to be covered by the company upon probation is successfully completed, full coverage after 2.5 years after joining of the plan

We usually do not provide relocation for those new hires. Even rare exception for executive level. Same for air tickets. But in case we really find a suitable candidate, we will try to solicit some special approval from the CEO, especially the position is very difficult to fill.

  • be able to speak Mandarin or Cantonese
  • have long experience producing Chinese and Asian bakery products in high volume
  • have authorization to work in Canada

Job description – Bakery Manager job

The role:
Reporting to the Director, Prepared Food Department, the Bakery Manager, Western Region is
responsible to manage the Merchandising functions and Production activities and Store Bakery
operations for the Western Region, WR (WR includes BC and AB) in accordance to corporate policies and
statutory procedures.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Manage the Bakery activities of all stores, this includes but is not limited to sales volume and cost
control, front-end customer service and production operations
2. Manage the operation of the Central Bakery Production Centre in accordance to corporate and all
other relevant policies and procedures and government regulations
3. Give guidance, directions and clear instructions to Central Bakery and Bakeries at stores in raising
the overall performance of the operations and product quality
4. Perform the appropriate research and development procedures and process standardization
according to company’s strategic and merchandizing directions
5. Constantly review existing product lines and develop new products to enhance competitiveness
6. Stay current with techniques, preparations, ingredients and any other topics related to the area
7. Strengthen chain store management concept and standardization in achieving economies of scales
and quality control
8. Responsible for the top and bottom line performance of the Bakery Department, WR by closely
monitoring the sales volume, gross margin and cost of operations
9. Carry out the labor cost and productivity analysis to justify the use of new work processes and the
purchase of new equipment to produce products
10. Ensure the new or improved Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P.) are developed, modified,
documented and implemented on a timely basis
11. Oversee the merchandising function of all bakery ingredients, products or equipments from our
local and overseas vendors for the stores, Central Bakery and for our Private Label products
12. Provide ongoing coaching, education and professional development, including workshops, seminars,
classes, meetings, etc to ensure Bakery staff are staying current with market trends by either attend
them personally or by selecting a staff member to go, and then make sure that the individual trains
the entire staff on the subject matter
13. Resolve employee issues and grievances
14. Prepare for, and attending meetings such as daily forecast and departmental etc.
15. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:
1. Minimum of 5 years in the pastry/bakery industry; experience as a management in a high-volume
baking products manufacturing facility or chain store pastry operation is an asset
2. Must have at least 5 years of supervisory or management experience
3. Must demonstrate sound ability to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders
(verbally and written) in Chinese (Cantonese &/or Mandarin) and simple conversational English
4. Knowledge in bakery product merchandising, has good vendor relationships with local suppliers and
from overseas
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced, food production environment
6. Must be organized and is able to express ideas in a systematic and logical way (verbal and written)
7. Must be able to identify and keep abreast of the market trend, be innovative and able turn ideas
into business opportunities
8. Have a well versed knowledge in all kinds of ingredients and equipment, production methods of
different pastries and work technologies
9. Possess good knowledge of computer skills and is comfortable in using Microsoft Excel and Word
10. Possess strong analytical skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to make
constructive recommendations
