Executive Pastry Chef (Asian Style) – CAD$45,000 – CAD$57,600 per year + potential bonus

  • Must have high volume Asian pastry production experience
  • Must be able to speak Cantonese or Mandarin to be able to communicate with owners
  • Must have work authorization for CANADA

Bonus – pre-requisite is the company must make a profit, bonus payout for both positions ranges from 0% – 12% depends on company, department and individual's performances

Benefits – 50% of BC's Medical Service Plan's Premium to be covered by the company upon probation is successfully completed

Group Life, Health, Dental, Vision, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance – 50% of Premium to be covered by the company upon probation is successfully completed, full coverage after 2.5 years after joining of the plan

We usually do not provide relocation for these new hires. Even rare exception for executive level. Same for air tickets. But in case we really find a suitable candidate, we will try to solicit some special approval from the CEO, especially if the position is very difficult to fill.

Job description – Executive Pastry Chef job
The role:
Reporting to the Regional Bakery Manager, the Executive Pastry Chef is primarily responsible for achieving the
maximum level of productivity, efficiency and profitability on all matters related to bakery production by
managing a team of Technical Specialists in ensuring the daily bakery production of the region is performed in
accordance to corporate policies and statutory procedures.
Major Responsibilities:
Bakery and Staff Management
1. Manage and run a food preparation and production process in a bakery environment in accordance to
corporate and all other relevant policies and procedures and government regulations
2. Manage a clean work place during and at the end of each duty, ensure all equipment in work are is
properly cleaned
3. Provide ongoing coaching, education and professional development, ensure Bakery staff are staying
current with market trends
4. Resolve employee issues and grievances
Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P.) & Process Improvement
5. Inspecting the department to ensure that all standards and procedures related to security, sanitation,
WCB, Health Department, equipment …etc are being followed
6. Assist in developing, updating and documenting of the new or improved production processes in terms of
Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P.) timely or when there is a change in work processes and equipment
taken place
7. Participate in the selection of new equipment so as to streamline and improve work processes
Research & Development & Market Awareness
8. Constantly review existing product lines and develop new products to enhance competitiveness and create
customer’s excitement
9. To stay current with techniques, preparations, ingredients and any other topics related to the area of
bakery, desserts in the culinary industry
10. Perform the appropriate research and development procedures and process standardization; make
recommendation on the directions of product development and ingredients application
11. Execute product formulation and equipment information to successfully enhance product quality
Productivity and Profitability
12. Carry out the labor cost and productivity analysis to justify the use of new work processes and the
purchase of new equipment to produce products
13. Create and plan quality bakery items while keeping costs within the budgetary constraints and to maximize
profitability
14. Carry out research on the efficiency of new equipment to further increase productivity and improve quality
of existing products
15. Ensure spoilage is kept to a minimum
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:
1. Diploma in Food Science, Culinary Management or Chef accreditation considered an asset
2. Minimum of 5 years in the pastry/bakery industry; experience as Pastry Chef in a high-volume baking
products manufacturing facility or chain store pastry operation is an asset
3. Must demonstrate sound ability to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders (verbally
and written) in Chinese (Cantonese &/or Mandarin) and simple conversational English
4. Able to demonstrate good management and mentoring skills and dare to lead by examples
5. Must be able to conduct on-site demonstration of hands-on techniques and production process of various
kinds of pastries
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced, food production environment
7. Must be organized and is able to express ideas in a systematic and logical way (verbal and written)
8. Must be able to identify and keep abreast of the market trend, be innovative and able turn ideas into
business opportunities
9. Have a well versed knowledge in all kinds of ingredients and equipment, production methods of different
pastries and work technologies
10. Possess basic knowledge of computer skills and is comfortable in using Microsoft Excel and Word
11. Must be flexible enough to stand, bend, lift (as heavy as 70 lbs), and moves intermittently and regularly
during shifts of 8+ hours
12. Ability to travel as required
